Holders Furness started their defence of the Cumbria League’s T20 crown with a comfortable home win against Millom last night.
The champions had nine wickets and 2.1 overs to spare when they reached their target after Millom had opted to bat first.
Skipper Graham Dawson opened and scored 37 off 36 balls, hitting eight fours, and with Robert Thompson (16) he put on 51 for the first wicket.
But Dec Tyson was clean bowled by Garry Thompson – one of his four victims – for a golden duck before Dawson and Tony Foster (33) took the score to 89-3.
Millom couldn’t go on well enough from there, however, and after their 20 overs they had reached 121-7. Thompson took 4-11 off his four overs.
Furness lost Bradley Chapples (26) at 47 but that was Millom’s only success as home professional Yash Dubey (64 off 65 deliveries) and Nathan Waterston (23 off 22) saw them through to their target unscathed.
It was Millom’s second defeat in the competition as they were beaten by Dalton last week and tonight it’s the turn of Haverigg to host Dalton.
In the North group Keswick entertain Wigton but no game has been arranged for the West group.
There is the final Higson Cup quarter final at Workington on Sunday when Cleator are the visitors.
