There’s a game with a difference being staged at Cockermouth rugby union club tomorrow night – Masters Rugby League.

The established West Cumbria Masters side are bringing their players through to Strawberry How to take on a team of rugby union players named the Allerdale Barbarians.

Chris Wright of the Cockermouth RU club says: “The game is very age inclusive and the game is open to non-members. They should just turn-up on the night with boots, sock and the right coloured shorts.

“We have the beer garden set out and the bar open from 6pm and player Craig Muller is treating us to a South African themed night of BBQ and music which is open to all.”

According to Masters RL rules red shorts indicate 50 to 59 years of age; gold, green or blue are 60 to 69 or 80 plus.

“It should be an enjoyable night of rugby,” said Wright. “I know several of our players at Cockermouth Wasps are looking forward to it.”
