Jake Carter, released by Barrow earlier this month, has joined Whitehaven on a month’s trial.
He will go straight into Haven’s squad for Sunday’s Betfred Championship visit to Keighley Cougars.
Carter, 24, is now in his second spell with the club following a loan in the 2019 season and he joined up with his new team-mates earlier this week putting him in contention to make his second debut on Sunday.
During that first spell four years ago Carter made three appearances slotting a field goal in a Good Friday derby victory over Workington Town and scoring a try on his final appearance in defeat away to Oldham.
Haven head coach Jonty Gorley said: “He’s trained on Tuesday and Thursday and slotted right in as if he’s been here all season. He’s an organiser and a playmaker as well as knowing a lot the squad outside of rugby which will really help.”
Carter’s father Darren played at Workington Town under successful Australian coach Peter Walsh and also at Barrow.
He grew up watching him play for Barrow and various teams and said it was through watching his dad that he took-up the game after a brief flirtation with football.
He played for Barrow Island and had a couple of years at Warrington before joining the Barrow Academy.
