It was almost Ashes-like in tension when Workington beat Broughton in a West Cumbria Midweek League game last night.
Nathan Canfield and Graeme Bates saw Workington home with one ball to spare after a 25-run last wicket partnership.
Broughton had elected to bat after winning the toss and in their 20 overs reached 144-4 with all the top three retiring after reaching 32 – Dan Poole, Andy Penrice and Gary Graham.
For Workington Liam Irving took 1-6. Jon Roper had 1-10 and Jack Williamson took 1-11.
Robson Scott (35) and Liam Hazzard (30) were early retirees for Workington but they were down to the last pair of Canfield (13 no) and Bates (6 no) when they were able to scramble home with just one ball remaining.
They were also helped by 24 extras in their efforts to knock off the required runs. Mitch Gorley was the most successful Broughton bowler with 2-12.
