
Velo Club Cumbria returned to time trial action this week with 2022 club champion Luke Johnston comfortably winning the Keswick 10-mile time trial.
Workington-based Johnston set a blistering pace, completing the course, which runs from Beck Wythop to Keswick and back on the A66 alongside Bassenthwaite Lake, in a very fast time of 20 minutes and 12 seconds at an average speed of 29.7mph.
Johnston finished 58 seconds clear of veteran Allistair Moffat, who himself was 52 seconds clear of third placed man Craig Mounsey. Winning road bike rider was Simon Hayes in a time of 27.13. First female was Sue Toppin in 27.46
VCC’s club series continues on Tuesday July 4 with a 25-mile time trial on the Keswick course. Sign on is from 6pm on the old road between Braithwaite and Portinscale.
