Cumbria’s county development team will be led by Nathan Waterston when they play the Wales National Counties North Team today at the St Asaph club in Denbighshire.
Selectors have given debuts to the Garstang wicket-keeper Sam Hayward and Penrith batsman Ollie Greenwood.
The team also includes Freddie Fallows of Kendal, a hard-hitting batsman, who has shone in the senior county side after being drafted in this season.
This is the first time that a County side has played in Wales since 1995 when the Wales Minor Counties hosted the County in the One Day Trophy at Northop Hall CC.
Northop Hall is just over the border into Wales from the Wirral and the club confusingly play in the Liverpool Competition rather than the North Wales Premier League.
Cumbria won by six wickets on that day with notable contributions from Marcus Sharp (4/31) and David Pearson (50).
Today’s game represents a return match as the Development team played against Wales NC North last year at Netherfield.
Cumbria won that match by 63 runs (DLS method) thanks to Finlay Richardson who scored 127 runs not out from 110 balls. The Kendal wicket-keeper has since gone on to represent the senior Cumbria side.
The team is: Nathan Waterston (Furness, captain), Tom Fox (Workington), Evan Williams (Greenmount), Will Atkinson (Keswick), Ollie Greenwood (Penrith), Freddie Fallows (Kendal), Sam Hayward (Garstang, wk), Josh Brown (Cockermouth), Louis Backhouse (Kendal), Dec Tyson (Millom), Regan Jackson (Workington).
