Arlecdon Rams aim to stand up to cancer

Arlecdon Rams

Arlecdon Rams Rugby League Masters will be hosting a fundraising day for Breast Cancer UK at Adams Hall, Arlecdon later this month.

The club is encouraging players and supporters from both the men and women’s games to Stand Together on Saturday, July 22 in the battle against breast cancer.

The event will feature four Men’s Masters rugby league teams: Arlecdon Rams, Rebels Masters, Carlisle and Barrow who will all play matches against each other over the course of the afternoon, with all teams donating money.

But the focal point of the day will be a women’s rugby match, with teams made up of semi-pros from local clubs and ladies who have never played before.

The game rules will be modified for all those involved to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience for those playing on the day. The idea behind the game is to showcase the talent of women’s rugby in the local area, whilst letting those who have always wanted to play have the experience of being involved in a game.

There will be presentations on the day for the outstanding performers in the game.

As well as the several rugby matches taking place, the day will also be family friendly with food and drinks available, the Bar in Adams Hall will be open all day.

A raffle and auction will be held, featuring signed rugby memorabilia, amongst many other prizes kindly donated by many different local businesses. All the money raised on the day will go towards Breast Cancer UK.

Paul Willis, a member of the Arlecdon Rams committee, said: “The Rams have a long history of raising money for charity, and this year we are delighted to be raising money for Breast Cancer UK and able to shine the spotlight on the ladies game and give them the chance to show us lads how it’s done”

If anyone wants to get involved in the Women’s Match they should look at the Rams pages on Facebook or Instagram – all are welcome.

Alternatively, Arlecdon Rams train every Wednesday at Adams Hall, Arlecdon at 6.30pm and are always happy to see new faces.

Masters rugby is a great way for those who have retired from the open age game to keep fit mentally and physically whilst mixing with some likeminded souls. Anyone age 35-plus is welcome regardless of experience.
