Paul Simpson has intimated that he is looking to bring in players on loan ahead of Carlisle United’s opening League One game in a fortnight.
One name that is being highlighted as a possible target is the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard.
Her spent last season on loan with Carlisle’s promoted rivals Northampton Town and caught Simpson’s eye in the games against the Blues.
But according to a report by Football Insider, Carlisle face opposition from Charlton Athletic and Fleetwood Town for Leonard’s loan signature.
Football Insider suggest he will be handed a new deal by the Seagulls before heading out again for the next campaign as Roberto De Zerbi’s side to look to help him continue his development.
The 21-year-old Leonard is a Scottish Youth international who joined Brighton back in 2018 afterspells in the academies at Rangers and Hearts. He has since played twice for the Seagulls’ first-team but has mainly been used in their development squad.
He went to Northampton on loan last season and played 48 times in all competitions – an ever-present tag that added to his reputation – helping the Cobblers to automatic promotion.
Glasgow-born Leonard has 18 international caps at four youth levels for Scotland, from Under-17’s through to Under-21’s.
