Kendal have confirmed that Dan Bowman will be the club’s new head coach for the 2023/24 season.
He takes over from Garry Holmes who has moved to take over the lead coaching role with Keswick.
Bowman, the Cumbria head coach, had joined the coaching team at Mint Bridge last season after a number of years in charge of Workington.
He will have an experienced back-up team of coaches in Richard Harryman (forwards and set piece coach); Ian Voortman (backs and defence coach); Dan Stephens (backs coach) and Chris Park (strength and conditioning coach).
Former Kendal and Cumbria prop forward Billy Coxcon is the club’s director of rugby with Nick Milner the rugby operations manager.
Dave Buchan, Liam Hayton and Colin Wolstenholme have been named as the coaching team for the Kendal 2nds.
So far the senior men have completed three weeks of pre-season fitness training with over 30 players attending each session. The emphasis has been on core fitness so far, building strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance.
Within each session there has also been development of fundamental rugby skills and the players have been working on tackle height in line with the RFU guidelines for the community game.
The next three weeks moves them into the second part of pre-season preparation that changes the emphasis onto rugby specific fitness and skills, leading into pre-season matches that will start mid-August.
Further details to be announced in early August include new recruitments and the pre-season games.
