Reminder: Traffic warning issued to Kendal Calling festival goers

Kendal Calling festival goers last year.

People driving to Kendal Calling have been warned that planned works are likely to cause ‘unavoidable’ traffic delays and congestion.

National Highways have said there will be one less lane on the M6 motorway due to works between J39 J40.

Traffic is expected to be lighter at the start of the festival on Thursday 27 and it will become much more busy on Friday from midday onwards.

Showrunners also said that traffic in and around Penrith tends to surge as the end of the work week approaches due to additional weekend traffic.

This incudes the changeover for customers to the local Centre Parcs and the influx of festival goers.

Those driving to the festival are asked to ensure they plan ahead and use the following tips provided by organisers.

  • Try and arrive at the festival outside of the peak traffic hours of the local area, 12.00pm to 6.00pm on Friday 28 July. Campsites will open from 8am to alleviate potential congestion. Between the peak times, 12.00pm – 6:00pm delays may be unavoidable due to the local traffic network.
  • People are encouraged to arrive on Thursday where possible when traffic will be a steadier flow. Campsites on this day will open from 9am and the area will open from 5.00pm. Thursday tickets are £35 and can still be purchased.
  • Booking parking in advance is advised to help event goers get parked faster and limit delays at the gate. It is also cheaper to book parking online. Those staying in Emperors Field, Great Plains or Deer Lodge will receive an email soon with a booking link.
  • People are asked to bring water and food in their vehicle.

Showrunners will post live updates on Twitter at @inthefieldsLIVE for traffic conditions, parking availability and alternative routes as well as other information over the weekend.

As festival goers approach the festival, they are asked to turn sat nav’s off and follow all signage. Car park hangers should be clearly displayed in rear view mirrors to speed up entry to the festival.

Anyone driving to the festival who spots another festival goer’s car broken down and blocking traffic approaching the festival are asked to tweet the team at @inthefieldsLIVE
