
The Man v Fat Season 6 Cup came to a thrilling conclusion this week, with Parmesan Belgrade Blacks preserving their invincible record, scoring an 11-7 victory against the determined Scran United Reds.
This unique league, combining the thrill of football and the transformative power of weight loss, concluded its Season 6 with remarkable performances.
Several standout players emerged this week. For Fatarselona Oranges, Ben Snell was a constant threat on the field; his intelligent use of the ball led to a remarkable goal. The Greens’ Hein van der Westhuizen, another Man of the Match, worked tirelessly throughout the game and was rewarded with an impressive goal.

Hugh Godfrey, from Borussia Muncheneverything Whites, was unstoppable in his pursuit of the ball.
He demonstrated excellent control and passing ability and scored an outstanding goal. Ross McDonald’s unwavering commitment to the Fatburn Rovers Blues both in defence and in forward lung-busting runs, was recognized with a Man of the Match accolade.
And in the cup final, Marcus Beattie, Man of the Match for Parmesan Belgrade Blacks, was instrumental in controlling the game’s pace with his masterful passes, creating numerous opportunities for his team. Lastly, the Scran United Reds’ Man of the Match was Paul Sewell, whose performance on the field added a new level of energy to the game.

As we close another spectacular season, we extend our hearty congratulations to all participants. From the pitch to the weigh-in, each player’s journey remains an inspiring story of personal triumph, camaraderie and transformation.

The league is currently extending an invitation for new players to join the ranks, as it gears up for its upcoming Season 7, kicking off net month. It’s an ideal time to join: don’t miss the chance to make your mark both on and off the pitch!
The initiative is for all abilities, and there’s no age limit. Players can go completely at their own pace, regardless of their fitness levels.

Man v Fat Carlisle is a weight-loss football league for overweight or obese men with a BMI of 27.5 or above, and provides a supportive and friendly environment for men to lose weight and improve their overall health and wellbeing, with over 1,400lb lost so far.

The league – which combines football with a weight-loss programme that includes diet and exercise advice, weekly weigh-ins and support from fellow players – has been a resounding success, with over one hundred players from across Cumbria experiencing improvements in their physical and mental health.

The matches take place on every Monday evening at the Harraby 3G pitches on Edgehill Road in Carlisle.
