Kendal Town have completed four more signings on the eve of the new North West Counties Premier League season.
One of the most significant is the capture of 29-year-old goalkeeper Chris Cheetham, who can draw on a wealth of experience.
A product of Everton’s youth academy, having also completed a scholarship at Bradford City, he appeared in the National Conference with Southport and also lists Radcliffe Borough, Lancaster City, Atherton Collieries, Northwich Victoria and Ashton United among his former clubs.
During his first year with Bradford he was loaned out to Liverpool FC to play in the prestigious AEGON Future Cup in Holland. Teams in the tournament included Ajax, Barcelona, China’s National team and Bayern Munich.
Cheetham said after that it “was an incredible experience and I learnt so much playing with and against some of the best young players in Europe.”
Earlier in the summer it looked as though Cheetham was set to join Mossley in the NPL West Division but that didn’t materialise.
Cheetham said: “I’m delighted to sign and I’m really looking forward to getting started on Saturday, and meeting the supporters and people behind the scenes. We’ve got a good group here, so let’s make it a really positive season to remember!”
Other signings announced were Oliver Cooper, who joined n a work experience loan from Morecambe at the end of last season and caught the eye with some composed performances in midfield; right back Tom Russell who has joined from Kendal United and has impressed in pre-season and another member of last season’s squad, James Stanley who joined from Ashton Town in October ’22 and impressed at both left back and centre half during the campaign.
