Keith Nelson has been involved with Workington Reds, Barrow FC, Whitehaven RL and Queen of the South and has a story or two to tell.
I chatted with him this week and got a flavour of the time he has spent at all the clubs mentioned – and that’s without his interest in cricket and pigeon racing.
Keith actually became friendly with Workington’s most successful manager Ken Furphy and heard first-hand that he was leaving to join Watford.
Furphy hadn’t travelled home with the Reds team after a game in the south and instead travelled home by train. Keith picked him up at Whitehaven station to take him to Brigham where he was living and was told that he had been for an interview with Watford and couldn’t down the offer they came up with.
This particular conversation could have gone on all afternoon but here’s a sample of what Keith had to say when we met up.
