
A vintage and antique toy sale at a prominent Cumbrian auction house totalled almost £43,000 – with model boats and steam trains fetching the highest prices.
Three large Victorian pond yachts with lead keels and a selection of masts and sails were the highest selling lot in the sale reaching a hammer price of £1,000.
Made around 1870, the largest yacht, What Next, measured 48in x 10in across the beam while The Eslaford and another unnamed yacht measured 43in and 34in long respectively.
The sale featured four private collections of model railways, locomotives and railwayana with the most valuable lots being 0 gauge brass construction steam locomotives. A 4-6-0 Scots Guardsman with tender sold for £680 while a black painted class 8F and a Jubilee class 4-6-0 Princess Rupert, both with original boxes, sold for £620.
A collection of diecast model vehicles, mostly Dinky, made £400.
Amongst the soft toys, a Gabrielle Design 1980s Paddington Bear in a rugby outfit made £130. A rare 18th century country craft carved wood carnival head or possibly scarecrow sold for £70.
