Cleator Moor Celtic suffered their first defeat in the West Lancashire League when they went down 2-1 at CMB.
The Bolton side are among the teams fancied to win the League this season so it was going to be a good test for Celtic who travelled after two opening victories.
But in the end it was a disappointing result for the West Cumbrians, coming away with nothing after more than matching. On another day they could easily have travelled home with all three points.
Brian Dawson’s men had started off on the front foot and went ahead after only 15 minutes through Rhys Little but the advantage lasted only four minutes when Ollie Turner levelled for the hosts.
That goal came from a set-piece and so too did the second on 56 minutes from Daniel Locke.
Dawson said: “After taking the lead we stopped playing and allowed them back into it. They were dangerous from set pieces and that’s where their goals came from. From our point of view both were avoidable and that’s definitely something we’ll have to look at.
“They are a good side with experienced players who are well organised but I felt the longer the game went on the more comfortable we looked. We were just missing that creativity nd spark in the final third.
“We were a little patched up in terms of unavailability and a few lads had to play through the pain barrier which isn’t ideal.
“We need to start finding a settled squad if we are going to reach our objective of the top five. It’s a very tough league and our first three games have proved that.
“It doesn’t get any easier with us travelling to Milnthorpe on Tuesday night. They are in great form with three wins from three games but we’ll be looking to get back to winning ways.”
Former Gretna, Kendal and Penrith manager Chris Humphreys is in charge of the Corinthians whose third win came at Fulwood yesterday, 1-0.
