Barrow’s first defeat of the season in League Two coincided with Stockport’s first win.
The points were settled by a single goal, scored in the 66th minute by Louie Barry and from then on in County dug in to keep Barrow at arm’s length.
It had been a slow start from both sides and the finishing in the first half was definitely sub standard.
Stockport’s best first-half chance fell to Isaac Olaofe after he had beaten the last defender to give himself a one-on-one chance with Barrow keeper Josh Lillis but he stood tall and made an excellent blocked save.
Kyle Knoyle was lucky to stay on the field after a high challenge on Courtney Duffus meant the Barrow player had to be replaced.
Barrow did get shots away at the Stockport goal in the first half but none of them troubled home keeper Ben Hinchliffe as he dealt with them comfortably.
Stockport were close to grabbing the lead early in the second-half and again Lillis did well, this time saving a close range effort from Paddy Madden.
County did manage to get ahead midway through the second-half when Barrie hit a stunning strike from outside the area which flashed past the helpless Lillis.
Barrow could not manage to get back into the contest as Stockport defended with great determination to see them through to the points.
