Carlisle-born spinner Liam Trevaskis is leaving Durham at the end of the 2023 season to join Leicestershire, to pursue further red ball opportunities.
A graduate of the Durham Cricket Academy, Trevaskis earned his first professional contract in 2019 and has gone onto represent the club in all three formats over seven seasons.
His first-class debut came in 2017 against Worcestershire at New Road, and he went on to make 27 red ball appearances for Durham, picking up 34 wickets and scoring five half-centuries.
Trevaskis has been a regular in Durham’s T20 side, since his debut against Notts Outlaws in 2017 – having developed a reputation as both a key white ball spinner and a big-hitter at the death.
The 24-year-old’s most impressive display in a Durham shirt came in 2018 at Old Trafford, helping Durham to a thrilling four-run win over Lancashire.
Lancashire, needing six runs for victory in the final over of the Vitality Blast match Trevaskis stepped up to announce himself to the world of cricket. Three wickets and one run later, the left-arm spinner had completed an astonishing turnaround victory.
He has represented Durham on 127 occasions in all formats and made his England under-19’s debut while part of the Durham Academy.
Director of Cricket, Marcus North told the county website: “Liam has been a fantastic servant for Durham in all formats over the last six years and prior to that playing a successful part in our Academy and pathway.
“Opportunities in red ball cricket have been limited for Liam this year and in order to play more first-class cricket he has decided to make the move to Leicestershire.
“He has played his part in many match winning performances for Durham over the years and his attitude around the group has been positive throughout his time, we wish him the best in the move.”
Speaking about his decision, Trevaskis said: “I have been involved at Durham for over ten years and I am grateful to have had the chance to represent the county.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Geoff Cook, John Windows and other coaches who have helped me along my journey so far.
“Like many others, I will always be indebted to Geoff and John for taking a chance on me.
“I have made lifelong friends during my time at Durham and hope to see them continue to succeed.
“I feel this move represents an opportunity for me to further develop and I would like to wish everyone involved at Durham the best for the future.”
Trevaskis started his cricketing career at Penrith and went through the various age group sides with Cumberland before joining the Durham Academy.
