A bridge on Corney Fell has been closed after fears were raised that it may collapse.
The bridge at Buckbarrow on the U4064 was closed today, Wednesday August 30, after significant concerns about the bridge structure and strength of the bridge to carry any vehicles.
Cumberland Council decided to close the bridge with immediate effect.
A diversion route and signs are in the process of being put in place along the A595 from Waberthwaite to Duddon Bridge.
The emergency road closure will remain until further notice.
Work will now be carried out to consider options on replacing the bridge and people will be informed of progress, the council said.
