Sedbergh School and Cumbria Women’s team bowler Mahika Gaur has made her England debut in a T20 international against Sri Lanka.
The 17-year-old opened the bowling and took 1-16 from her two overs as England went on to win the game by 12 runs on Duckworth Lewis.
Gaur took the wicket Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu but play was halted after six overs because of rain.
England had opened with 186-4 from 17overs and when play was ended prematurely the tourists had made 55-3 from their six overs.
Gaur became the first teenager to represent two international teams as she had initially played for the UAE as a 12-year-old.
A left-arm medium pace bowler Gaur went onto play for the United Arab Emirates between 2019 and 2022, and this year was selected for the first time by England.
While studying at Sedbergh School she was selected for Cumbria Women’s T20 side this summer before her England call-up last month.
Gaur is also balancing her cricket with finishing her A-levels, studying biology, psychology and maths. She hopes to go to university and study management.
