West Cumbrian star Dan Bewley looks to repeat his first-ever Grand Prix triumph at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium today.

Bewley is one of four home riders competing in the British GP with series regulars Robert Lambert (King’s Lynn) and Tai Woffinden (Sheffield) joined by Wild Card Steve Worrall of Wolverhampton.

Starting the meeting sixth in the overall standings but only seven points adrift of third-placed Martin Vaculik, Bewley has plenty of incentive to deliver another spectacular performance.

He said: “It’s cool to go back; it’s a cool stadium and a cool event. The track wasn’t ideal last year, but the track in Warsaw is pretty much the same size and I think they nailed that this time around. There was some awesome racing. I think the racing here should be good too.

“When it comes to the racing, I don’t really think about it as being any different to any other meeting. I will just go there and enjoy the ride really and see where I am at the end of the night.

“I am looking forward to going back to Cardiff the second time around. I’ll have a bit of an idea of what to do this time around.”

Meanwhile triple World Champion Woffinden is looking to finally win his home Grand Prix for the first time, having finished as runner-up on three previous occasions.

Woffinden said: “It would be special. I will go out there and treat it as any other Speedway GP. It’s no different – I try and win them all. Some days it happens; some days it doesn’t.

“But I always enjoy coming here. It’s the British Grand Prix and for me, it is the biggest one on the calendar. There is always something special about being here with the atmosphere. I just like the whole build-up to the event. I am looking forward to getting out there and having fun.”

Freddie Lindgren was fastest at qualifying yesterday from Robert Lambert and Kim Nilsson.

*Former Comet, Charles Wright had to settle for second place last night in the Championship Best Pairs final at Oxford, partnered by Danny King as they represented Redcar.

Glasgow were crowned the champions thanks to Chris Harris and Benjamin Basso. The Tigers duo edged out Redcar in the Final with Basso winning the race ahead of Wright whilst Harris crucially overtook Danny King for third place.
