It’s a happy ending and a one in a million chance – a wedding ring lost at a Cumbrian music festival was found over two weeks later.
Damon McRea, 35, of Aspatria, lost his wedding ring at Solfest.
Damon who has been married for seven years to Toni, didn’t think he would ever see it again – but thanks to festival organisers, he was reunited with it today.
Over 10,000 people attend the annual music festival – so his call for help was a tall order but organisers brought in metal detectorist Graham Ryan, 78, of Beckfoot, near Maryport, to help.
A detectorist for 23 years, he said he had had some interesting finds over the years – including a Roman gold ring on Beckfoot beach – but this find was just as satisfying because it had helped someone out.
Graham spent three hours on the site, looking for the wedding ring and came up trumps in the car park opposite the main site, where the wedding ring was hidden in long grass.
Graham said: “I’m just glad to help. I didn’t think I would find it, but I’m glad I did it for someone.”
Damon said: “I took it off for safekeeping, ironically, but it got lost. It’s funny but I had a feeling that it would be found – I thought we might find it in the tent or a shoe or something, but as time went on, that little bit of hope faded.
“So I was amazed when I got the call to say it had been found. I can’t thank Graham and the Solfest team enough. One thing is for sure, though, I won’t be removing it in future.”
