Whitehaven Alive has arrived with a bang in the town.

The harbourside has been transformed into a festival, and the unexpected hot weather provided a chilled out atmosphere as thousands of people perused the 70 stalls set up along the harbourside and then headed into the main arena to hear Springfield, LOWES, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Tinie Tempah.

A huge funfair from Taylors also added to the carnival atmosphere and local bars and cafes around the harbour were doing brisk business.

On Friday, Sophie Ellis Bextor also had a lovely day in the town, she told the crowd. In fact, she said she was so relaxed that while at the vintage clothes stall, she began to strip to try something on.

She also visited the Beacon and its Titanic exhibition.

If you didn’t catch the first day of the festival – don’t worry, there’s still lots going on for the rest of the weekend, including a flypast by the Red Arrows scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
