
The Cumberland County League experienced the hottest conditions of the year in yesterday’s matches – and the finishing was pretty hot too!
There were 45 goals in total across all the matches in the League which is into it’s third set of fixtures.
In the Premier Division top of the table Aspatria managed to edge past local rivals Wigton Harriers in a seven goal thriller.
Andrew Trestianu, Kieran Mcluskey, Dan Pearson, Darryl Creighton netted for Aspatria in the derby clash while Louie Elliot (2) and Sam Irving responded for Wigton as they ended on the wrong end of the 4-3 score-line.
Unisun Athletic remain second after an entertaining 3-2 win against Workington AFC Reserves at the Sheepmount.
Dorin Covaci, Kian Maker and Ryan Scott were all on the score-sheet for Carlisle based Unisun while the Workington goals came from Cain Pears and Chad Grisdale.
Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves moved up to second after goals from Ethan Smith, Owen Charlton and Jamie Martin gave them a 3-2 victory against Maryport Athletic. A Ciaran Booty double provided the goals for Maryport.
Mirehouse got their first win of the season in Division One after they beat Whitehaven Miners Social Development 5-0. Cyran Corlett, Callum Wilson, Bradley Dryden, Kyle Bayliff and Sam Murtagh provided the goals.
Cockermouth beat Silloth 15-0 to remain top with goals coming from Luke Graham (5), Kane Tinnion (3), Conor Cooke (2), Kyran Bertram, Aaron Hodgson, Mark Campbell, Dan Dobson. They also benefitted from an own goal.
Conway Cup action returned for some Cumberland County League Division One sides and nothing could separate Whitehaven Reserves and Bransty Rangers in 90 minutes as they played out a 3-3 draw.
Nathan Dryden (2) and Jenson Irving scored for the hosts Whitehaven while Stewart O’Pray and Liam O,Pray (2) netted for the visitors.
The game was then settled by a penalty shoot-out with Bransty going through to the next round after winning 4-3.
An Owen Bell goal for Windscale Reserves wasn’t enough for them as they lost 2-1 to Keswick. Alfie West scored twice to put Keswick into round two.
