The Eskdale and Ennerdale Hound Show was blessed with another fine day for one of the traditional events of the year.

It’s been great this year because all the annual shows have done well so far with none of them having a bad day weather-wise.

The show hosted a four-card meetings and the seniors got things underway with the current second in the senior Championship Miterdale Duchess back running after having a short break.

Running on familiar territory she was expected to have a good chance of winning on her return to action.

Ten hounds were slipped and as they came back into view it was a really open race and up the finish three Miterdale’s had it between them – Duchess, Dusk and Honesty.

However as they crossed the line Miterdale Duchess had gained a couple of yards. Miterdale Dusk finished second and Sophie Steele’s other hound Miterdale Honesty took third.

Denis Pear’s little hound Miterdale Duchess just keeps pulling the wins out of the bag and this took her to just two behind Winterfell again and obviously continues to keep the pressure on him.

Winterfell is most likely to run today at Shap, potentially a high risk strategy given that he didn’t ticket last time over the course.

Next to set off were the senior maidens with eight runners and it was the Foxparke team who were celebrating as they continued their hot run of form.

Coming home first was Foxparke Parma Violet, much to the delight of Brooke and Ellie who were catching her. Lisa and Holly Whitfield’s Black Edition did well to finish in second place followed home by two more Foxparkes – Who Gives A Toss and Mo Farren so a good result for the kennel.

They certainly like the trails being held at the various shows. It must be all those rosettes they like getting.

The open pups were next with a slip of 14, but there was no Championship leader Rodney Raider, with the Dearham kennel opting to run at Shap where he won last time.

As the pups came back onto the finish it was a tight affair between the two front hounds, Glamorous Ava and Artist.

As they crossed the line there was only a short head in it with Glamorous Ava just getting the verdict.

Foxparke Side Kick, who continues to improve after coming out of her shell, finished in third place with Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Dust taking fourth.

The win for Glamorous Ava was her sixth win this season and moves her up to sixth in the Championship table.

The open restricted race was next with nine runners and there were a good few Foxparke’s running in the race, looking to complete another kennel double.

As they came onto the finish it was a tight affair again between three hounds with nothing to separate them but as they just got to the line Foxparke Lady Ave just got her head over the line in first place followed by Thorn Rose for Joanna, Molly and Martin Burrow’s with Christine Brownlee’s Malia finishing in third place.

The win gave the Foxparke team another double, their second in a week.

Last to run were the veterans with a small field of eight classy runners and Forlorn Spring was the favourite.

As they came back onto the finish and through the gate, it was Crazy that had a good lead and crossed the line in first place much to the delight of Evie Moore who was catching her.

Foxparke Jiggly Puff finished in second rounding off another very good afternoon for the kennel with eight tickets across the day. Christine Brownlee’s Monsoon ran a good race to finish in third with the favourite on the day finishing in fourth place for Stuart Jeynes.

But Forlorn Spring keeps adding to his points lead in the veteran competition now twenty one points in front. Nicola and John Lyon’s Black Eyed Mist finished in fifth place, followed home by Foxparke Shackalackaboomboom in sixth place.

Action moves to Shap today with a five card meeting and the seniors get things underway at 1pm.
