Workington Town forward Hanley Dawson has decided to leave the club for a second time to go back to the community game.
He spent three seasons with Town after joining them from Millom ARLFC, during which time he played 26 times.
In April last year he decided to leave the west Cumbrians and return to the community game with Millom.
Ahead of the current campaign, however, he signed a one-year deal with Barrow Raiders after training with Paul Crarey’s side during the winter.
But he was unable to earn a place in the Barrow side and in April he was released from his contract and rejoined Town.
A hard-working forward, described by Town as a model professional, he has been a regular pick for coach Anthony Murray.
“I had Hanley when I was coaching Millom and I rated him then when he was only about 16.
“His partner is expecting a baby and I think that’s been a major consideration in his decision. I think there could be a chance we will see him back at some future date.
“But with the arrival of a new baby I just think he doesn’t want the pressures of professional rugby league with what it entails in training etc,” said Murray.
The Town coach, of course, has been in the spotlight this week with his nomination as League One Coach of the Year.
Murray said: “It’s very nice to be nominated because it’s your peers who do that and this is the fifth time in a row that I have been nominated for the award which is nice.
“But it’s very good for the club and terrific that we have Ciaran Walker nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. I think he has a very good chance.”
