Workington Reds have signed the former Carlisle United midfielder Jamie Devitt until the end of the season.
Devitt, 33, who was released by Carlisle at the end of last season, has been a target for Reds boss Danny Grainger since then.
“He’s a quality player who I am sure is going to improve us as a squad. I have been working on this since pre-season and delighted to get it over the line,” said Grainger.
Devitt, who started his career with Hull City, has had injury issues in recent years but was still a big favourite with the Carlisle United faithful.
Dublin-born Devitt, who started as an 18-year-old with Hull in 2008 played 16 games in his five years with the Tigers.
But in his time with the club he spent a series of loans with Darlington (6 games), Shrewsbury (9), Grimsby Town (15), Bradford City (7), Accrington Stanley (16), Rotherham (1) and a second spell at Grimsby (14).
He then had a short spell with Chesterfield but his big breakthrough came when he joined Morecambe on loan and then signed a two year deal.
It was his first club when he became a regular and clocked-up 89 appearances.
He joined Carlisle United in 2016 and went on to make 110 appearances for thre Blues, scoring 21 goals.
A move to Blackpool in 2019 did not work out, and he did not play for the Seasiders, but spent time on loan with Bradford City and Newport County before having a season with Barrow in 2021.
He played 21 games for the Bluebirds before returning to Brunton Park last season where he played 19 times.
