Police’s social media post featuring Porky Pig removed

Barrow police’s post

A police social media post featuring Porky Pig has been taken down by Cumbria Constabulary because it was ‘not relevant’.

The post was put up on Facebook last night by Barrow Police to warn people of a road closure in the town due to an ongoing investigation.

It said the road closure would last about an hour.

As well as a photo of a road closed sign, there was also a photo of the Looney Tunes cartoon character saying ‘s..s..s..sorry for the d..d..d..delay!!”

The account is run by police officers on the ground and not Cumbria Constabulary’s main press office.

Cumbria Crack contacted the main press office this morning to ask if it was an appropriate image for the Constabulary.

A statement from Cumbria police said: “This post is attributed to an account which is run by local police officers.

“The purpose of this account is to provide updates which are timely and relevant for the Barrow and surrounding areas, and provides officers an online opportunity to engage directly with communities.

“Following feedback from social media users, we reviewed this post and have taken a decision to remove the image as it had no relevance to the road closure itself.”
