Lake District properties believed to date back to the 1500s are going under the hammer next month.
Known as The Old Grammar School, the two properties – 9 and 11 Church Walk – overlook the parish church green in Kendal.
They are owned by Lakeland Arts, which will use proceeds from the sale to invest in collections, programming and a substantial contribution towards building a sustainable future for Abbot Hall and Lakeland Museum on the Kendal site.
The organisation’s attempts to make the building part of the museum provision have failed as funding bids were unsuccessful.
The auction was due to take place on October 19, but will now take place on November 23.
Believed to date back to the late 1500s and used a school until 1888 the properties have seen several modifications until reaching their current form by the late 1700s.
Lakeland Arts acquired 11 Church Walk in 1969 and number 9 in 2014.
Number 11 was originally converted from school premises to a cottage in the late 1800s. More recently, the property has been used as museum premises being part of Abbot Hall and occupied by Lakeland Arts.
They are in need of a full refurbishment to bring them back to life and are available for sale as a whole or two lots at the auction, which takes place at Abbot Hall.
They are being auctioned via Armistead Barnett and have a guide price of £175,000 to £195,000 per property.
Armistead Barnett said there had been a significant amount of interest in the properties.
