Workington Reds will have a second new player in the squad for tomorrow’s visit to Guiseley in NPL Premier Division.

Joe Bunney, 30, is an experienced utility player who has played both as a forward and a defender in his career which started at Lancaster City in 2011.

Manchester-born Bunney worked his way through the Lancaster youth system while he was studying at Myserscough College before breaklng into the first team.

He was briefly at Kendal, Stockport and Northwich before his first big break came in 2013 when he signed for Rochdale and scored the winner on his debut against Plymouth.

In five years at Spotland he played 122 games and scored 16 goals before playing for Blackpool, Bolton and back to Rochdale on loan before joining Matlock Town.

He was back in League football with Hartlepool and Grimsby before returning to Non League in 2021 and since then has played for Altrincham, Warrington Rylands, Macclesfield and Ashton United.

Bunney joined Stalybridge Celtic for this season and has now linked up with the Reds on a 28-day loan.

He will make his Reds debut tomorrow at Guiseley alongside Dannen Francis who has joined on loan from Blackpool.

Bunney is in a relationship with England and Manchester United footballer Ella Toone and spent time in Australia when she was playing in the World Cup.
