Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume has been named one of the world’s best restaurants by La Liste.

The three Michelin starred restaurant based in Cartmel has been awarded the top ranking alongside six other restaurants worldwide.

It marks the first time a UK chef has ever achieved the accolade in the eight years since La Liste – which ranks the world’s top 1000 restaurants – launched.

Simon said: “I’m deeply honoured and humbled by the recognition of L’Enclume as the top British restaurant in La Liste 1000 2024.

“Being listed alongside so many brilliant restaurants we’ve always admired, many of which we’ve had the privilege of connecting with, visiting, and collaborating, is an immense privilege.

“This achievement symbolises two decades of dedication, perseverance, and a bold choice my wife and I made in 2002, investing everything to open a restaurant in the small but wonderful village of Cartmel in The Lakes.

“We proudly remain an independent group of restaurants, driven by talent, hard work, and creativity.

“At the core of our journey is my exceptional team at L’Enclume. They embody unmatched dedication and passion in the industry. Their drive and commitment are the driving force behind our continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation.”

L’Enclume is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading dining destinations. It opened in 2002 in a former 13th-century blacksmith’s workshop.

With a farm-to-table philosophy at its core and a focus on the ingredients grown at Simon’s farm in the Cartmel Valley, the produce-driven menu showcases locality and aims to give prominence to every ingredient.

The restaurant celebrated its 20 year anniversary last year, the same year it was awarded its third Michelin star, the first restaurant in the north of England to do so and one of only eight restaurants in the UK to receive this coveted status.

This year also saw Simon expand internationally with an opening in Malta and Thailand next month.

La Liste launched in 2015 and has its own unique scoring algorithm based on reviews, guidebooks and trusted publications.
