Lindal Cricket Club will hold an important meeting tonight to discuss their playing plans for next season.
The South Cumbrians are due to be relegated after finishing bottom of the Cumbria League’s Premier Division.
But the club felt hard done to by the League’s decision to allow a Northern League player to turn out for relegation rivals Haverigg in a key game at the end of the season.
Subsequently the club applied to join the Westmorland League and have been accepted.
But the decision where to play will be taken on a vote of members at the Lindal club, although it appears most of the players prefer a switch to Westmorland.
One of the players Paul Wilcock told Cumbria Crack: “The Freddie Fallows thing is fresh in the mind but to be fair over the years there have been other things we haven’t been happy with.
“This latest episode was probably the one that made us look at other options. The Westmorland League have already discussed our application and accepted us into Division One.
“They know, however, that we have to put it to the vote of all club members and not just our first team players. I think they are in favour of a move.
“We are just a small club, and have been a bit of a yo-yo team in recent years. We can’t afford a professional and note that there are none in the Westmorland League.
“They allow overseas amateurs but I think only one team had one last season – and they won the League.
“We realise, of course, that under the proposed new pyramid set-up we might be back under the Cumbria League umbrella for 2025.”
Lindal are due to be replaced in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division by Dalton who won Division One.
Dalton have already appointed Akhil Herwadkar as their overseas professional for the 2024 season.
He is a Indian left handed opening batsman who comes to the club with a fantastic FC record of 2483 runs at an average of 36.51 in the Indian First class divisions.
He is a former India under-19 player and previous clubs are Mumbai, Delhi Daredevils and Chhattisgarh.
A club spokesman said: “We are hoping his wealth of experience through different world class competitions will help the club progress in the new campaign.”
