
In-form Barrow, League Two promotion hopefuls, were shocked by non-League Maidstone in the FA Cup.
The Bluebirds were bundled out of the competition at the second round hurdle, beaten 2-1 after going.
They went into the game with 46 places separating them in the league pyramid but it was Maidstone who triumphed thanks to a late goal from Bivesh Gurung.
In the 74th minute he thumped in a drive from 20 yards which booked Maidstone’s place in the third round for the first time since their reformation in 1992.
It looked as though Barrow were going to dominate the tie at the start. Elliot Newby was just over the top early on with a snap drive and on 20 minutes they went in front.
Racing onto Emile Acquah’s flicked header which was missed by the home defence Ben Whitfield was able to tap home.
A quarter of an hour later Maidstone drew level when Sam Corne latched onto a ball into the box before firing past Barrow keeper Paul Farman.
Both sides went close in the second-half – Paul Appiah for Maidstone and Sam Foley for Barrow before the tie was settled by Gurung’s effort.
