Whitehaven to host Swinton Lions

Whitehaven Head Coach Jonty Gorley (Ben Challis)

Whitehaven will host Swinton Lions in the opening game of the 2024 Championship on March 17.

It’s a significant fixture because last season the two, along with Keighley, were in the mix for relegation on the last day of the campaign – and they both survived.

Barrow fans won’t see their side in action until April 7 when they host York City Knights.

Workington Town will start their League One campaign with a big one.

The Fibrus Community Stadium side have been handed a home game with title favourites Oldham on St Patrick’s Day, Sunday March 17.

Oldham have been the big spenders over the winter months and have former Great Britain star Sean Long in as coach.

Before then Workington will host Barrow Raiders on January 28 in the new format for the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup.

It’s being split into groups this next year – one reason being to give League One sides more games in a depleted programme.

They will entertain neighbours Whitehaven on February 18.

Whitehaven will entertain Barrow on February 4.
