The Labour Party has chosen its candidate for the new Penrith and Solway seat in the next General Election.
Markus Campbell-Savours, son of Lord Campbell-Savours, was selected at a meeting of local party members on Thursday.
The Cumberland Council councillor, who sits on the executive committee, lives in Keswick.
He said his priorities were investment and jobs, with Cumbria at the heart of Labour’s ambitious renewable energy plans; tackling the cost of living crisis, backed by a home insulation plan that meets the challenge of rural housing; more funding for rural buses and local rail; truly affordable housing and a cap on holiday lets; and a recruitment strategy for the local NHS and other struggling public services.
So far, the Conservative Party has announced that Mark Jenkinson, currently MP for Workington, will stand in the new Penrith and Solway constituency and Julia Aglionby is the candidate for the Liberal Democrats.
