A five-year-old Carlisle Squirrel Scout has been honoured by Bear Grylls.
Thomas Hampton, of Carlisle, was among 20 young people named as an unsung hero by the chief scout.
The event, at the Bear Grylls Adventure Centre in Birmingham, recognises young people aged four to 25 who have gone above and beyond – whether that be their efforts in raising money for charity, saving lives, or being a pillar for those around them in adversity.
The winners were all UK Scouts who have shown Scout values, courage, kindness and the ‘never give up’ spirit.
Thomas was presented with his award by Bear and was given £500.
Thomas was nominated for the award by his scout leaders, who said: “He has always been a fantastic friend and always helps new children settle in to Squirrels.
“He also helped our leaders understand what children his age were like when the Squirrel Drey was first set up. Nothing is ever too much for Thomas and he always give 100 per cent. He recently took part in first sleepover and helped the other Squirrels. Thomas is now a confident young person thanks to Scouts.”
Thomas said: “When I grow up, I want to be just like Bear.”
