Alan Moore of Cons Club missed very little

The latest action in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League saw Flimby Social maintaining their top spot in Division One.

They continued their good run of form with a solid 4-1 home victory over Workington’s United Club B.

Kevin Kirkham started the match with a break of 42 and with little to negate this he put the Social side 1-0 up.

A victory for Michael ‘Sid’ Walker soon made it 2-0, before Dale Milton snatched the third to pull one back for United B to keep them in the match at 2-1.

The Division Two side fought hard in the next two but with little to show for their efforts it was Sal Cakmak and Geoff Banton who pushed home the Flimby advantage to see them run out 4-1 winners.

Flimby stay top of Division One on 25 points and even though United B only gained a point they closed on the Division Two leaders, Workington Veterans Club A, owing to their free week and reside on 18 points.

Workington’s United Club A gained maximum points in their fixture against Division Two’s Workington Golf Club B as they ran out 5-0 winners.

Victories for Dave Chapman and Clive Lister saw the United Club A side claim a 2-0 lead and as team mate Peter O’Hagan won the third convincingly an unassailable 3-0 advantage was gained.

Mark Suitor was next to add to United A’s points total and with Andrew Mitchelhill taking the last the United A captain completed the whitewash.

The United Club A close the gap on the top two in Division One but remain in third on a 21 point total. Workington Golf Club B drop down one place in Division Two to fourth on 8 points.

Division One’s Workington Conservative Club produced a sound away performance as they defeated Workington Veterans Club B 4-1 to stay fourth on 20 points.

Cons’ Julian Plaza ground out the first for 1-0 and with Alan Moore missing little in frame two the two-time county champion put his side 2-0 in front.

A series of remarkable pots on the colours from Dave Holland allowed him to pinch the frame on the black for 3-0 and with Ryan Barker winning in similar vein in the next the Cons outfit were four to the good.

Some consolation was offered to the Vets B side as they took the last for 4-1, meaning their single point moved them up a place to third in Division Two on 9 points.

Top tier champions Workington Golf Club A threatened to over-power Workington’s Station Road Club at 3-0 up but with dogged determination the fellow Division One side took the last two frames to finish the match with a very respectable 3-2 scoreline.

Phil Sorfleet, Mark Cowen and Ryan Ismay all hit top gear to stun their opponents and land a 3-0 Golf A lead but it was a black ball victory for Mark Robertson that gave fellow Station A cueist, John Teasdale, the confidence to take the last for two very rewarding points.

Golf A stay second on 22 points with Station A propping up the top division on 17 points.

Finally, Whitehaven’s Rack Shack came back from 2-1 down to defeat Maryport Social 3-2 in the all-Division Two fixture.

Neil Dougherty gave the Rack Shack a 1-0 lead before Maryport’s Andrew Sharp delivered parity with a win in frame two.

A one-sided Andrew Scott victory put Maryport 2-1 up but as Adam Morilla made it 2-2 followed by a superb Andy Moore deciding frame victory the Rack Shack recorded their first league win of the season.
