Workington Comets have been drawn against Redcar Bears in the quarter finals of the 2024 Championship KO Cup.
The Comets are returning to the Championship for the first time since they won the KO Cup in their treble winning season of 2018, the last season they operated.
Redcar, who will include former Comets rider Charles Wright, were the first winners after that when they lifted the silverware in 2019.
Scunthorpe will begin their defence of the KO Cup with a first round tie against Plymouth.
The Scorpions took the silverware in 2023 with a sensational performance in the Final back in October to end Poole’s domination of the trophy.
In the quarter-finals, the winners of the Scunthorpe/Plymouth tie have been drawn to face Berwick, whilst the Pirates take on Edinburgh in a repeat of the 2021 Final.
There will also a big clash between Oxford and Glasgow whose play-off contest last season went right down to the wire.
All ties will be raced over two legs as usual, with fixture details to follow.
- KO CUP Round 1: Scunthorpe v Plymouth
- KO CUP Quarter-Finals: Poole v Edinburgh, Oxford v Glasgow, Redcar v Workington, Scunthorpe/Plymouth v Berwick.
Meanwhile the groupings for the BSN Series competition have been confirmed, as follows:
- SCOTTISH GROUP: Berwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow
- NORTHERN GROUP: Redcar, Scunthorpe, Workington
- SOUTHERN GROUP: Oxford, Plymouth, Poole
Details have also been announced for two major events at Championship level next season.
The Championship Pairs will take place at Oxford for the third year, and once again it will be staged on the evening prior to the British Grand Prix.
The event has been arranged for Friday August 16, and will see Glasgow defending the silverware they collected in 2023 thanks to Chris Harris and Benjamin Basso.
And the Championship League Riders’ Championship will remain at Redcar for a second year, on a date to be confirmed, where home favourite Charles Wright, a former Workington rider, will look to defend the title.
