Entries are open for the red squirrel picture of the year competition for 2024.
Sponsored by the Red Squirrel Survival Trust charity the competition theme is ‘red squirrels through the seasons’ and four winners will be selected from the open category covering spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Cumbria is lucky enough to still have a natural red squirrel population – making a good place to go out and get snapping.
One will be crowned an overall winner and a special category for photographers under the age of 18 will also be open.
A cash prize is up for grabs and the overall winner’s entry will also appear on the front of the charity’s 2025 calendar and on a jigsaw puzzle.
Mark Henderson, the Red Squirrel Survival Trust’s volunteer advocate who organises the competition said: “Entries are now open until February 28 2024. Entrants must be purely amateur photographers and images can be in colour or black and white.
“Many of the photographs are likely to be used in publicity and awareness campaigns during the year.”
The four seasons category and the under 18 winners will each receive £50 and the overall winner an additional £50.
Full terms and entry conditions can be found on the charity’s website https://www.rsst.org.uk/
