Carlisle’s pools complex is set to be demolished next month to make way for the £27 million Station Gateway project.
The pavement near The Pools area at the top of James Street, will be temporarily closed from Monday January 8. Pedestrians are asked to use the footpath and walkways on the opposite side of the road.
Diversion signs will be in place.
The Turkish Baths will remain intact but will continue to remain closed.
The project is already well underway and has seen some significant activity at the junctions of Currock Street, James Street, Water Street and Rome Street, Cumberland Council said.
Contractor Eric Wright Civil Engineering has started the demolition of the vacant Staples building next to Matalan.

The project is a strategic regeneration project included in the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
Cumberland Council in partnership with Network Rail has secured over £27 million of funding for the project.
This project will include:
- Northern Gateway: Partial pedestrianisation of Court Square and improved pedestrian connections to and from the station.
- Station interior: Enhancements to the Court Square access, improved facilities for customers and an upgraded and welcoming entrance from George Square.
- Southern Gateway: George Square (station entrance from James Street) – Public car parking being relocated to George Square to reduce the vehicular traffic at Court Square together with drop-off and bus replacement services.
