The M6 between junctions 36 and 38 has reopened this morning following a multi-vehicle collision at Tebay.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm yesterday, Wednesday, December 27.

Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

Cumbria police said: “It appears this has followed a downpour of hailstones which made the road conditions particularly difficult.

“The most serious collision involved someone struck by a vehicle at the roadside.

“He was taken to Preston Hospital was serious injuries to both of his legs.”

It is understood the man got out of his car on the hard shoulder of the motorway and was struck by another vehicle.

The section of motorway remained closed while investigation and recovery work continued and a diversion route was established.

It reopened at around 7.35am today, Thursday, December 28.
