A Carlisle man exposed as an online cannabis dealer after one of his parcels was intercepted by postal staff has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Police responded after a suspicious package smelling strongly of cannabis was identified by city sorting office staff on December 16 2021. It had been mailed from a post office in the Morton area.
This was destined for an address in Leicester and found to contain seven labelled glass jars containing a waxy cannabis substance.
CCTV footage from the Morton Post Office revealed the sender to be Aleksander Stasilojc, then aged 19 and now 21.
More cannabis in relative significant amounts was found during a search of his home along with associated drug supply paraphernalia, including dealer bags and mobile phones.
Carlisle Crown Court heard online payments linked to Stasilojc were identified while a website had been created as part of the criminal enterprise and there was also advertising through a social media platform often used for illegal activity.
Stasilojc was sentenced having admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis, and three counts of possessing the class B drug with intent to supply.
Recorder Julian Shaw noted that in the period which had elapsed since his offending, Stasilojc had made positive steps to mend his ways, and shown remorse for his wrongdoing.
An eight-month prison sentence was suspended for two years. Stasilojc, of Newlaithes Avenue, Carlisle, must complete work with the probation service, along with a drug rehabilitation requirement and 180 hours’ unpaid work.
“This was, in itself, a relatively well thought out, one-man drug supply operation,” the judge said.
