One of Cumbria’s long-established cricket clubs will be celebrating its bicentenary this year.

The Whitehaven club dates from 1824 so the 2024 season will be a bit special at the Playground.

To mark the occasion the club has released a special badge and a commemorative 20/20 shirt which will be one this season.

Pin badges are also available and the club has a number of events planned during the season to mark such a special landmark.

Top of the bill is a visit from the MCC on Whit Sunday (May 26) while there is to be a past v present 20/20 game.

Club stalwart Phil McCormick said: “The club would love to see former players and/or their families during the summer when they will be made most welcome at the Playground.”

If anyone would like a shirt, pin badge or take part in an event, or help with sponsorship they can contact Phil on 07828957604.

The official history of Whitehaven Cricket Club was largely compiled by Hugh Jones during the 1960s. His sources were mainly reports in local newspapers.
