Penrith produced an outstanding performance to come from 2-0 down and beat title challengers Shildon.
It was the seventh win in a row at Frenchfield for Darren Edmondson’s men, and the biggest scalp they have taken.
Earlier in the season Penrith had lost 6-0 at Shildon so this was an indication of how much the Bonnyblues have turned it round.
Edmondson said: “They have two of the top five goal-scorers in the League and are clearly one of the most capable.
“They started off very strongly and we were under a lot of pressure but really it was down to two of our own mistakes that they got their 2-0 lead, one of them from the penalty spot.
“It was important that we got one back before half-time and we did through Luke Brown, whose energy and drive has been outstanding in recent weeks.
“In the second-half we were into the wind but did very well playing through them and round them, not looking for the long ball over the top which they did repeatedly in the first half.
“We got two good goals as well to win it. Luke Hunter now has 14 from an advanced midfield role and Connor Shields is playing with a lot of confidence.
“We had to dig in for the last ten minutes as they put on late pressure but we stood firm and to get over the line was brilliant.
“At the end of the day we have one of the lowest budgets in the League and we have relied mainly on bringing in promising players from other competitions so our progress has been very encouraging.
“We now have a big ten days coming up. We have Whickham on Tuesday, who are going well in the FA Vase; then Crook Town on Saturday, who are in a good run of form and a week on Tuesday it’s the County Cup quarter final against Carlisle United. They are going to be three big home games for us in a row.”
Shildon had taken the lead through Billy Gruelich-Smith after ten minutes and that advantage was doubled on 28 minutes through Joe Posthill from the penalty spot.
Brown scored a crucial goal on 32 minutes for Penrith and they won it with second-half strikes from Hunter (49) and Shields (80).
