Workington Town and Whitehaven are in discussions about restaging Sunday’s postponed Ike Southward Memorial game.
Both clubs say they are committed to playing the prestigious game, which has a permanent place in the pre-season fixture list.
The two teams are due to meet at the Fibrus Community Stadium on February 18 in the 1895 Cup competition.
There has been a suggestion that this game could be used as a double header – with the Ike Trophy on the line – but that has not been confirmed by either club.
That will be the final fixture in the 1895 Cup for the Cumbria group which kicks-off on Sunday when Town entertain Barrow at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Barrow travel to Whitehaven on February 4 and two weeks later it’s Town v Haven to complete the group.
Barrow have had three pre-season games and won them all; Town lost at Widnes while Whitehaven drew there a week later – but they both have played only the one game.
