A former Workington Comets rider is one of the contestants in the new series of The Apprentice.
The BBC One show pits 18 hopeful candidates against each other in a bid to become Lord Sugar’s business partner – and among them is Paul Bowen.
Bowen rode on and off for their National Junior League side, the Meteors between 2014 and 2018.
In 2017 he was promoted to the Comets side in the Championship after Rob Shuttleworth quit the club mid-season.
Bowen, now 34, rode as a guest reserve in three meetings – at Derwent Park against Ipswich and Edinburgh and away at Scunthorpe. He didn’t manage to score a point in any of the meetings.
His sporadic appearances for the Meteors were down to his involvement with the family business, as well as a couple of injuries.
More recently Bowen has been riding for Belle Vue Colts, combining his appearances with his day job as director of Bowen Pies, whose clients include Manchester City FC as well as the speedway club.
Now he will be taking part in the 18th series of the show, which gets underway on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday February 1.
He’ll be looking to impress Lord Sugar with a business partnership and £250,000 investment at stake, and to avoid the fate of being fired from the competition before the end of the 12-week schedule.
Bowen said: “I’m seeking investment of Lord Sugar’s time and knowledge. I have great ideas and great business acumen, along with a work hard attitude.
“Planning and organisation is my weakness. But with Lord Sugar’s strategy and my passion and ideas, I could make him Lord of the Pies.”
