Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh caught up with Workington chairman Phil Norman for an update on the club’s progress this season.
The club clearly had a cashflow problem when they didn’t have a home game for up to six weeks and they lost two big Saturday games which were switched to a Tuesday,
Phil says how the club has come through that difficult period and is delighted how the attendances have stood up so well this season.
They average over 700 and are close to what they were in the promotion season 12 months ago.
He also feels the quality of football being produced by Danny Grainger’s side has helped maintain the crowd figures.
Phil goes on to talk about the departure next season of Reds Ladies to become Workington Town Women, a disappointing decision but that is far from the end of female football with the club.
Although they won’t have a senior open age side next season Reds have a thriving girls youth section which will be the seniors of the future and they are currently looking for a development manager to oversee this important part of the club.
