As a team building exercise ahead of a new Conference League season, tackling a popular fell walk was perfect for the Kells club.
So why not make some money for a good cause while undertaking the trek on Saturday?
That’s exactly what the club decided to do and the weekend walk has raised money to support a popular supermarket worker from the town.
Sharon Graham suffered life-changing injuries following a fall at home so money raised from the Kells club’s effort will go towards a fund set up for her.
There’s a strong link between Sharon – community champion for Morrison’s Supermarket in Whitehaven – and the Kells rugby league club.
Her son Jordan plays for the club when he’s on leave from the Army while grandson Archer plays for their Under-10’s team.
Kells head coach Peter Smith admits he’s still feeling the effects of his participation in the near 10 mile walk along the Coledale Horseshoe.
“It was a very worthwhile cause as Sharon is very well known and respected in the community, and has strong connections with our club.
“There were 24 of us on the walk and although all the money isn’t in yet I’m sure it’s going to be a nice sum that we will be handing over,” said Smith.
