
Under-16s can take advantage of 10p swims at leisure centres across Cumbria this half-term.
Swimming pools across the county will be offering 10p swims from Monday February 12 to Friday February 16.
In Wesmorland and Furness leisure centre’s in Appleby, Barrow, Dalton-in-Furness, Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston will be part of the scheme.
At Appleby, Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston leisure centres, 10p swims will also be available for two hours a day on Saturday February 17 and Sunday February 18.
In West Cumbria, the following leisure centre’s will be part of the scheme:
- Cockermouth Leisure Centre: Monday 12 – Friday 16 February, 1pm – 1.50pm each day.
- Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre (Whitehaven): Monday 12 – Friday 16 February, 1pm – 1.50pm each day.
- The Sands Centre (Carlisle): Monday 12 – Friday 16 February, plus Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February, 10am – 10.50am each day.
- Wigton Baths: Tuesday 13 February – 11.15am until 12.15pm; Wednesday 14 February – 11.15am until 12.15pm and Thursday 15 February – 2pm until 3pm.
- Workington Leisure Centre: Monday 12 – Friday 16 February, 10.30am – 11.20am each day.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “We have put health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do, and we want to encourage the young people of Cumberland to get active.
“The 10p swims will be available in five locations, at different times throughout the week. It is a great opportunity for children to use our facilities at a discounted rate and will also support families during a cost of living crisis.”
Booking ahead is strongly advised by contacting the leisure centres directly.
The 10p deal has been organised by Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council – with support from GLL and Wigton Baths Trust.
Councillor Dyan Jones, cabinet member for customer and waste services, whose portfolio includes sport and leisure, said: “We hope these 10p swims will encourage our young people to be active over February half-term as well as supporting families with the cost of living crisis.
“Many residents are having to make difficult day-to-day decisions and leisure activities may be a luxury that some parents simply cannot afford. Hopefully this half-term holiday discount will enable lots of youngsters to enjoy a swim without putting too much strain on the family budget.”
The scheme has been approved by the council’s three Locality Boards for Eden, Furness and South Lakeland at a cost of around £11,000.
