Almost naked walker spotted in Lake District

Latrigg

A woman out walking alone was confronted by a near naked rambler as she descended Latrigg.

Seventy-one-year-old Anna Nolan, who leads walks with the Skiddaw u3a Roamers, said she was extremely shocked by the encounter which happened around 2.15pm on February 10.

Anna said that the man was wearing a walking jacket but his bare buttocks were exposed as he was without underwear or trousers.

He did not have a rucksack and was carrying a small bundle of clothes in his left hand.

The medium built man was heading up Latrigg as Anna was walking down the eastern shoulder of the fell and they met above Brundholme Road.

Anna had been watching where she had been putting her feet and as their paths almost crossed – he was on the other side of a fence – she was forced to avert her eyes but after walking on a few feet turned and saw the man’s exposed buttocks.

“He never turned his head towards me so I cannot say how old he was,” said Anna, who has completed the Wainwrights eight times.

“I just saw him from the right side. I have never seen anything like that on the fells before. If it had been a young girl who had seen him then she might have been more shocked.

“It was shocking and thankfully we were not on the same path. There was a couple just behind me and we just looked at each other.

“I reported it to the police who said that the chances of the man being caught were practically nil. I did not expect any follow up, I merely wanted to report the incident.”

In September, a couple on Blencathra had encountered a runner wearing nothing but socks and trainers.

The couple said that they had found the encounter “extremely offensive” and had told the man so.
