Workington Comets’ history making signing Celina Liebmann is to mix it with speedway’s top riders to launch her season.
Premier League giants Belle Vue have announced that the top female racer will compete in the Peter Craven Memorial which opens the season in Manchester on March 18.
Liebmann was one of the standout riders in last year’s Women’s Speedway Academy which took place at the National Speedway Stadium, and in 2024 she will make history in the UK by racing for Workington in the Cab Direct Championship.
Before her campaign with the Comets gets underway, the 22-year-old will become the first ever female competitor in the Aces’ traditional individual event.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “We’re very excited to welcome Celina to Manchester in her first competitive appearance on UK soil and I’m sure supporters will be just as excited to see her.
“Women in sport is a topic that has been growing considerably over the last few years and she has practically become the face of women in speedway.
“She’s proved that she has the skillset to compete with some of the top riders her age, and now she is ready to take the next step and see how she measures up against some of the world’s best.”
Liebmann is one of the six riders announced by the Comets for their return to the Championship and the promotion says they are close to agreeing a deal for the seventh.
